The South Florida Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will be organizing a series of support groups for laid-off or bought-out journalists. These will be informal get-togethers with no goal except to unite those of us trying to survive these challenging times in the media industry.
The Miami-Dade support group will meet Tuesday, March 24th at 7 PM a John Martin’s Restaurant at 253 Miracle Mile, Miami. For more info, call John Hopkins (305-803-7008).
The Broward support group will meet Wednesday, March 25th at 7 PM at the Starbucks at 3305 Sheridan Street, Hollywood. for more info, contact Julie Kay (jkay50@hotmail.com).
If there is interest, we will also create a group in Palm Beach County.

I am interested in receiving updates on what your group is doing. I’m near Tampa, a long way from Dade County, but perhaps we could start something like this up here. I lost my full time job as an editor two years ago and have been struggling along as a freelancer, trying to survive.
