			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The annual Florida ACES workshop will be held on June 22 in St. Petersburg.  Early bird prices for those with registration postmarked by June 1 are just $8 for ACES and SND members and students; $23 for all others.</p>
<p>The event is for copy editors working in any media, from students through old hands.</p>
<p>Topics and speakers will include:</p>
<p><strong>Alternative story forms</strong>, presented by Sara Quinn of the visual journalism faculty at The Poynter Institute.<br />
<strong>Ethics in the online world</strong>, Jan Leach, professor of journalism at Kent State University in Ohio.<br />
<strong>ŒSo This is Journalism?</strong>‚ session on online editing, Anne Glover, AME for online  features at the St. Petersburg Times.<br />
<strong>What copy editors need to know about journalism and the law</strong>, Rick Kenney, assistant professor of  journalism at the University of Central Florida.<br />
<strong>Editing when you don&#8217;t have time</strong>, John Schlander, executive news editor, St. Petersburg Times.<br />
Writing effective headlines, Jeff Rubin, copy desk chief of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.<br />
<strong>Careers outside the copy desk</strong>, a panel featuring Leigh Caldwell, SNN News 6 executive producer; Patty Kim, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, media relations coordinator; Anne Glover, St. Petersburg Times.</p>
<p><strong>How copy editors can take charge of a paper’s critique</strong>, Jeff Rubin, Sarasota  Herald-Tribune.<br />
<strong>ACES and the state of copy editing</strong>, Chris Wienandt, ACES president and Dallas Morning News.</p>
<p>Workshops will be at The Poynter Institute, 801 S. Third St., St. Petersburg. Lunch will be provided.</p>
<p>Florida ACES is a chapter of the American Copy Editors Society, which aims to improve the quality of journalism and the working lives of journalists.</p>
